CF Industries today received the American Association of Railroads-Bureau of Explosives Non Accident Release Grand Slam Award for safe rail shipping of hazardous materials. This is the second time the company has received the award.
The AAR and the Bureau of Explosives present the Non-Accident Release Grand Slam Award annually to companies that are exemplary shippers of hazardous materials. An award winner must have been recognized by at least four Class I railroads and have had zero non-accident releases (NARs) involving their shipments the previous calendar year. A hazardous materials non-accident release is an unintentional release of a hazardous material while in transportation, but not involving an accident.
Five Class I railroads awarded CF their 2016 safe shipping awards for its safe preparation, loading and shipping of anhydrous ammonia, which is classified as a hazardous material by the railroads, with their safe shipping awards. Receiving the awards means CF shipped more than a minimum level of Hazardous Materials on a railroad and achieved zero non-accident releases (NAR) during the previous year.
Below is the list of awards for 2016 rail shipments and the nitrogen complexes whose ammonia shipments are most associated with the award. Please note that all CF facilities shipping Hazardous Materials by rail contributed to these achievements.
- BNSF Product Stewardship Award (Verdigris and Woodward) – award has been received 18 straight years
- CN Safe Handling Award (Courtright and Yazoo City)
- CP Safe Shipper Award (Medicine Hat)
- CSXT Chemical Safety Excellence Award (Courtright)
- UP Pinnacle Award (Donaldsonville; Medicine Hat and Yazoo City also ship a significant volume to destinations on the UP) – award has been received 14 straight years
Each year, CF ships more than one million tons of anhydrous ammonia to customers and our distribution facilities by rail.
